Libchavy: Community office

History

On the side-line of main local road, which went from Central Moravia to Eastern Bohemia in Celtic times was founded long slim village of Německé Libchavy. The road went through wide valley overgrown by mixed virgin forest. Settlement Libchavy started in 1265 and finished in 1285, when there was four new market-towns and more than 25 new villages. Locator called families from East Francs to colonisation. Primary Německé Libchavy was divided by Mikuláš z Bubna to three parts: Dolní (Lower), Střední (Middle) a Horní (Upper) Libchavy. In 1976 they was united to Libchavy. German was the spoken language usually in Libchavy from foundation to 1946. Between World War I and World War II there was a bilingual area. In 1945 and 1946 was majority of German inhabitants forced to move to Germany. Their houses was settled by Czech families which have been living there till now. But original inhabitants like to invite their former home.

At the end of the 19th century many people started to work in factories in near Ústí nad Orlicí. Meantimes in the village were founded specialized farms: beef farms, pig farms or poultry farms. It was beginning of Libchavy's change from poor agricultural village into a profiting modern one.

In village there have soon appeared post office, Libchavyrailway station, bus station and another innovations. On the second side, former wooden houses were overbuilt to brick ones. The oldest building in Libchavy is a stronghold from 1628 in the south part of the village. In the middle of the village there rises parish church of St. Mikuláš from 1802. The church takes place of former burnt baroque wooden church. There is also many baroque statues placed in whole village. Every visitor must see great work of municipality in care about inhabitatnts and their village.

The highest hill in Libchavy is Hůrka (546 meters above the sea-level). It shows great views to vicinity

There is new reconstructed school-building in the village.

Through the village goes main road I/14.
